The lining was actually made way back at Christmas.
*BTW that nice gather on the inside pocket is part of the waistband of the old satin shorts the lining used to be. I'm all for using ready made seams
The zipper was what really stumped me. So not knowing any other way I trimmed the pink zipper I bought and hand stitched it into the purse. Top edge looks good huh. Go me! Then I stitched the lining over the inside edge to cover the zipper stitching, again by hand. It's not something I'll ever use. LOL Into the tub it goes. I'm just so proud of my first zipper.
You are absolutely amazing!!! I just came across this as I am making my very first Mermaid Tears purse. What you did to the inside and adding a zipper I could only dream about. What a superb job you did. Did you ever do a tutorial or pattern for this? If so, I would love love love to try it. You can reach me at ravelry.com under kimmyt57 and leave me a msg where I can reach you. Thank you so much!!! Your work is awesome :-)
ReplyDeleteSorry about the untimely reply, I honestly missed this comment. If you look back at the original post for the purse, http://sheri-stitches.blogspot.com/2011/11/croc-stitch-exp-1-pink-purse.html ,
DeleteThere are 2 links. Teresa better know as Crochet Geek on youtube does a nice video tutorial on the stitch itself. This purse began life as a test swatch and is one sided. The second side is plain dc I believe. The second video is for the handle only. From another prolific youtuber, bobwilson123. For linings I use the pictorial from FutureGirl, http://www.futuregirl.com/craft_blog/2014/7/tutorial-lucky-wristlet-lining.aspx , this link uses a zipper but she has other pictorials for just a simple lining (and other closures).
For my pink purse the foundation was done in worsted weight yarn while the 'tears' were in a baby weight variegated. Different weights and textures are going to give different looks.
If you prefer a pictorial lesson on the croc stitch try this site, http://moiracrochets.hubpages.com/hub/Crocodile-Crochet-Stitch-Pattern , she used the same video from Crochet Geek as her basis and includes a small clutch pattern.
Other ideals:
1. My Merry Messy Life - One sided short bag with similar handle free pattern with her own tutorial on the stitch (I didn't view) [featured in a Moogly collage]

2. Crochet Me - Design by Thema Lockhart - Free download of pdf file - One sided but could be altered, nice bag shape. (Uses Crochet Geek as stitch reference)
http://www.crochetme.com/media/p/126341.aspx
3. Craft Passion Free patterns & tutorials - Interesting Drawstring design, stitch worked in rounds to cover all sides. Option for beaded accents in stitches. Includes lots of pictures of strap, closure, and lining. Refers back to written stitch tutorial based on Crochet Geek version
BEWARE: The site is safe just annoying, no popups for me, but it is covered in ads. Including an audio ad I could neither find nor shut off until it played through. Monetization overboard. The patterns are worth a look.

I hope this is useful. I am considering trying that drawstring pattern myself.

BTW cant find an account for Kimmyt57. My Ravelry account name is Sheregal, though I don't use if for much but surfing for new patterns and don't check it often. I will answer any messages I see.
